Yachties Net

Yachties Net

8.00am Tuesday Mornings, 3.765 +/- QRM

In the South West of England we've got a fabulous coastline and excellent ports and marinas. Not only the large commecial shipping ports of Falmouth, Plymouth, Southampton and Bristol but many smaller marinas and former fishing ports like Dartmouth, Salcombe, and Weymouth, along with a host of anchorages.

Many Radio Amateurs own boats or yachts, and many yachtties and boaties fit radios to their boats for short wave listening or weather reception at sea.

So we're keen to establish an 80m net for yacht and boat owners, along with others who are interested in yachting and boating.  A natter net, but with the focus on boating in the South West.

We made our first contact between MX0WSX in Shepton Mallet and Geoff MM5AHO just south of Falkirk in Scotland, on Tuesday 12th.  Propagation was not the best, and there was a fair bit of continental QRM, but MX0WSX received a 5/9 report and we were able to have a brief conversation.  We will continue to test this time and frequency for a few weeks.

There's a thread discussion about this net on the YBW Practical Boat Owners's Forum.  Link is here.

If you're a short-wave listener but don't have a receiver, you can hear us (propagation permitting) via the internet on the Web SDR at Hack Green: http://hackgreensdr.org:8901/
